Cannes Lions 2013

What have Sean Combs, Martha Stewart, Jack Black and Vivienne Westwood got in common? Not much you might think but they are in fact all featured speakers at this years Cannes Lions festival.

Taking place from June 18th – 22nd in sunny Cannes this year marks the 60th anniversary of the festival, this year’s theme is all about creative inspiration hence the inclusion of fashion designers, rappers and chefs – all creative in their own right.

Regarded as the “Oscars of Advertising” a record-breaking 35,765 entries from 92 countries have been submitted to the Cannes Lions 60th International Festival of Creativity. Those fortunate enough to be in attendance get an unrivalled opportunity to view all of the submitted work as it is showcased around the venue. Falling in to the categories of Film, Film Craft, Press, Outdoor, Direct, Media, Cyber, Promo, Radio, Design, PR, Mobile, Titanium and Integrated Lions the entries are exhibited in digital kiosks, there is also the opportunity to view some of the entries on the big screen as those from the Film categories are screened throughout the week.

While we’ll have to wait a few more days to see who the big winners are at this years festival there are some campaigns that are tipped to win big, some of my personal winners include;
Channel 4 – Meet the Superhumans, this spot for Channel 4’s coverage of the Paralympic games  really caught my attention last year – a real tale of redemption.
Similarly this moving 2 minute campaign from St. John’s Ambulance hit home with its shocking twist.
A real winner in my opinion, Dove’s Real Beauty Sketch campaign was a highlight from the thousands of campaigns that we were exposed to in 2012.
